Asphalt shingles are inexpensive and heavy. Their black color causes them to heat up in sunlight. Would it kill a kudzu crown if placed on top of one for an extended period of time? The photograph shows that it is difficult to contain kudzu: Note the sprouts poking out from underneath the shingle! Spikes and metal washers hold shingles in place. The heat was not great enough to kill the kudzu crown in the ground. September 2005.
