The neighborhood of Duncan Park is heavily wooded, with walking trails and a lake at its center. Because of its size, the Coalition has taken a step-by-step approach to kudzu eradication. The photographs below show such a wooded area, with multi-colored flags to show where crowns have been removed to kill the kudzu plants. December 2006.
The Spartanburg Urban Youth Corps is an active participant in Coalition work, and worked the site during June 2007. They referred to the flagged area as "Kudzu Cemetery". Thanks guys and gals!
We are frequently asked what the flags mean. So we put up a sign at Duncan Park that explains that each flag marks the location where a kudzu plant was removed. Click on the right photograph to see all of the flags! Many flags, much progress. September 2007.
